So I'm in the market for a fairly nippy and relatively upmarket Petrol car, the Scirocco is quite high up the list along with the Audi A3 S-line and e90/92 325/330i.

So I'm looking to hear of anyone's experience or far more knowledgable opinion in terms of me choosing a 2.0 GT Scirocco! I'm going to view one on Monday, one owner, 70k miles, 2013, full history and in great condition for round 11.5k which is at the top end of my budget.

I'd love to hear anyone's opinion etc or any info that could help me out, also if there's anything in particular that I should be looking for when I go to view it.

Thanks a lot!

Thats a lot of miles for a 4 year old car.

For what its worth i have recently sold a Scirocco 2.0 ltr tsi with the fabulous DSG gearbox. It was a 2010 model and I had it from 12 months old with 12,000 miles on, and sold it last month with 46000 miles on it.

Had it serviced twice by dealer and the DSG gearbox oil change, then serviced it myself thereafter.

Did not burn any oil at all car was absolutely faultless.

So much so, i have ordered a Scirocco DSG 280 and cannot wait to collect it.

So my advice is go for it, but maybe a car with a few less miles, and test drive one with the DSG gearbox.......you wont be dissapointed.yes

If you want a Scirocco then these two with half the mileage but only £500 more you can have a much better car.

Personally I'd take the RS Megane over the Scirocco but if we all liked the same thing life would be boring.

I'd always figure that a young car with high mileage is without a doubt mostly motorway miles and so usual seems like good value to me. I may try a dsg or auto box in certain cars but I still feel like I'd get bored of it and wish I had the manual.

The problem is that those cars are 200 miles from me, and also one is auto and the other is in white which I wasn't as keen on. The Renault is interesting but it isn't my cup of tea to be honest.

The Scirocco I was looking at sold before I could view it anyway so that's out of the question and I'm back to looking at 330/325i, a3s, a4s and Sciroccos!

One more general question I have with regards to the Scirocco is about the year of the car, I'm looking at a 2010 car with 55k (has had a cam belt change) and I was wondering if this year has mostly been revised and cured of most of the early problem that this car had.

I think the Scirocco will have a chain rather than belt. The Golf GTI changed from belt to chain with the mk6, which was around 2008-9. They weren't without their problems though, with some chain failures reported so check which model years that might apply to.

There have also been different outputs to the 2.0tsi. It started off with 200, went to 180 and 210 options for a while I think, and now has a 220 option too.

This particular engine is the 207bhp version from 2010. This may be a silly question but how do I find out if this year is one that's likely to be problematic. It's worth just saying again that the cam chain has been changed

They're generally good engines.

Coilpacks and plugs always worth a change as you can occasionally get misfires.

Inlet manifolds can be problematic.

These are all pretty easy and not too expensive to sort.

The worst problem is the timing chain tensioner which is a known issue and can be rectified and should have been done depending on the year (I think mid 10 plate onwards).

I love Sciroccos. not the most exciting car but akin to the Golf GTI it's a very good "all rounder" if you want that sort of car.

They can do 40mpg as well. My friend has one which he's had some basic modifications on the engine - Intake and a cat back exhaust. Rtech tuned it to over 270bhp and 350 ft lb of torque.
