hi guys im in a bit of a muddle as to choose my next car im looking to spend around 15k on a car that has to be fun and exciting going to be a weekend car only as have a year old 335d touring for the wife and a van for the day. The car has to be exciting and fun but also able to do the OCASSIONAL track day so doesnt have to be a full blown track car just capable of it. ive been and looked at a cayman s a monaro vxr which i really like and a v8 m3 but that would be pushing the budget right up. any ideas welcome thanks james

Gt86 not as fast as your suggestions but more affordable for track days and just as much fun.

RS Megane would do the job very nicely.

Trouble with the Monaro/VXR would be road tax of £495? How about a 911 996? Great performance, running costs shouldn't be outrageous and should hold its value.

I mean, how much is a turbo kit? ~£3k fitted? Plus £12k for a cleanish car? Plenty fast, affordable and still reliable enough unless you go nuts.

Go for the VXR8 it's a better car than the Monaro just as much fun with a small chance of bork vs something like a 996.

But for fun down an A/B road a Megane RS265 is hard to beat, they also have the added bonus of being replaced with a five door only (maybe Auto only) model so the prices are starting to firm up.

In a similar thought process at the moment. Current Scirocco lease comes to an end in less than a year, so i either go for a white goods cheap lease which is reliable and safe, or drop back into somehting a little more fun.

My problem is that i've had 55 cars already and now seem to be more excited by the hunt and purchase than the ownership experience. Which is why the boss prefers a lease as it stops me changing stuff all the time

Current thought list includes:
Early Boxster
S2000
VX220
944
GT86/BRZ
S4 Cab (not much good for track)
Well used M3
CLK500/CLS500
Z4 3.0

Looking for something fast and loud - my inner boy racer is coming back but i also want comfort

And then i start looking at "modern classics" too and everything goes out of the window as they are mainly cars I wanted when i was 17
XR3i
XR2
Pug 309 GTI (preferably Goodwood)
Dolomite Sprint
Elan 90's vintage blobby one
Z3 2.8
Ren 5 Turbo
Mk2 Golf GTI 16v
TVR S3
Lotus Esprit
the list goes on.....
