Hi,

I currently have a 1.6L Diesel 7 year old Ford Fiesta - always had fiestas and have been happy with them.
I drive around 12,000 miles a year

I am considering changing my car this year and am undecided what to go for, 1.5L 2017 Fiesta Titanium or Vignale or 118d BMW 1 Series

The new Fiesta is coming out in the summer (after the new changes to tax), love the look of the inside!!

I understand that the BMW would be more expensive to run/servicing/parts if needed etc.

So I guess what I'm asking is your opinion on both cars and what your decision would be.

Do I wait and compare them when the new Fiesta comes out (£140 tax on either if I buy them brand new), or buy the BMW 1 series now with £20 tax (brand new or pre reg).

Thanks in advance - all opinions welcome.

Fiesta. With a petrol engine.

Mostly because the German brands just don't do it for me. Don't know why.

I'm single, no kids, although have a niece that I occasionally pick up/take places.

My commute to work is a 80 mile round trip on mostly dual carriage way (max twice a week) - I car share so that is why my mileage isn't high.

I would be paying for the car outright

There will be a new 1 Series soon whereas the Fiesta is a brand new model, so I'd go with the Ford. Yes, this is PH and the BMW is RWD, but a 118d is hardly the definition of the Ultimate Driving Machine regardless of the driven wheels. I'd avoid diesel either way.

Would you be looking at a PCP or is it a company car? If it's a PCP, maybe consider the M140i? They can be had for £299 a month with a £1000 deposit, so depending on what offers you can get on the other two, might be worth bearing in mind.

Nothing against the Fiesta but the Vignale is strong money for a Fiesta. I'd look a bit further down the range if I was buying one, especially new. Can't see them having great residuals... I heard a new one is more than £19k?

Why the f. do they inaist on sticking that God awful chrome trim on the side of all the vignale's? Otherwise its a nice looking car, certainly the best looking in its segment

Not sold on the Vignale, will take a look at all the models when they come out and compare.

Looking at the spec on both, you get a lot more tech and extras for your money with the Fiesta?

Why do you say avoid diesel's David87?? Always thought they were better for travelling longer distance and fuel economy?

Fiesta with one of the pokier petrol engines.

Look at the cost of buying a new diesel, the spec the exact same car with the same power in a petrol, work out the difference and work out how far you need to drive for the diesel to pay, before it chucks up any diesel related bills.

At least it is being used for decent miles when it is being used.
