Contemplating a change to a 911 4S from current golf r. Im looking at a circa 2008 model. Will I notice any sizeable difference in performance? and what should I look out for?

2008 could be gen1 or gen2, the gen2 is the significantly better car.

I loved mine when I had it, although it took me about a year to get used to the handling. When you do though, there's nothing as much fun to drive as a 911.

Definitely look out for where the engine is kept, I heard those sneaky Porsche guys sometimes hide them in the boot.

It's easy to spot. It's just above the oil slick on the tarmac.

Not a trolling attempt but genuine curiosity: how much is a regular service for a 997 in the UK? Anyone knows what the OPC and good indy would charge? Over here in Germany it's round € 700 for the 'small inspection' at a good value OPC. I find that quite hard to stomach for what is more or less a glorified oil change...

As long as you're ok with a hefty bill (IF it comes) you'll be happy with a 4s. Have had no issues with mine until the last time it went in and cost over 4k+...... If you're not the type to smile and pay when something like that comes up, stay away!

Tye golf feels much quicker. Better brakes, gearbox and engine!

It's still a golf though! 911s are an itch you should scratch at some point, the later cars are so much better than any vw golf, sorry.

The Golf will feel faster as said smile.

But that said it's what matters to you.

Out of those two it would be the Porsche, even with the issues they have.

I have an R estate and I can’t complain. Even with 296bhp, I still wish for a bit more torque and horse power, but it’s by far the best car I have owned. It's more of an overall car for me, than one for just looks, speed, or practicality.

TBH I couldn’t really afford a Porsche and even if I could, then I couldn’t stomach the servicing and parts costs. Of course I would love to own one for a bit, just to have a bit of fun, who wouldn’t?
