In January I started thinking about time I had a weekend toy and after a bit of thought set what I thought was a sensible budget of £12-14k expecting to buy a K-series Lotus Elise S2 towards the top of that range.

After a bit of a journey, yesterday I put down a deposit on a Maserati GranTurismo S 4.7 MC Shift at a touch over £40k.

Don't ask me how because it can only be explained with algebra... I think I deserve the Fields medal.

Awesome!

Can you provide rationale before finally going for the Maserati? I usually get fixated on a car for a few months then just buy the one I'm fixated on at the time when I swap. Totally random sometimes and has resulted in some strange choices.

I got my wife interested in man-maths recently, I think she's a quick learner!

We were looking at main dealer supplied low mileage 2014/15 C-class 250 coupe in the high teens. Had one picked out but that sold 20 minutes before we got to the dealer no worries there are others to look at. So test drove one, quite liked it but went home for a think...

The next morning off to another dealer for a similar 250 coupe chatting away with mrs I and suddenly we've bought a 200 4matic coupe amg line with premium pack!
