Used Car-5 Yrs old-40k-Is this enough Mileage to avoid DPF

Hello All,
I am thinking about buying a BMW 320d, thats 5 years old and it has done just over 40,000 miles. This averages out to 8,000 miles a year. I need a diesel because I do a lot of mileage.
As an average, is 8,000 miles a year enough not to get the dreaded DPF fault. I am only asking because a couple of years ago I bought a diesel with low mileage but had to change the DPF due to the previous driver using the diesel as a town car rather than longer journeys. It was 4 years old and had done 31000 miles (averaging 7750 miles a year). Luckily the garage I bought it off covered the cost as it was under warranty. (the DPF is quite rare to be covered for, even with top cover)
I know its always hard to tell how the previous owner has driven the vehicle but I dont want the same issues again.
I know some of you might be thinking if I am having doubts, don't do it, but its hard finding a used car with the spec you want within your budget.
Do you think I should be looking at mileage 50,000 or over?
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

It surely depends on the journeys, not the average mileage. I drive around 9 miles each way to and from work and rarely use my car at weekends, so probably cover around 5000 miles PA however I'm not expecting any problems with my DPF. My wife drives a similar distance over multiple short journeys and I'm bracing myself for trouble; however we use her car for longer journeys wherever possible in the hope of avoiding trouble.

My 2011 diesel has done "only" 44000 miles, and in my 4 years of ownership it has NEVER done a short journey.
I always leave it ticking over before I stop the engine to allow the turbo to cool a little too.
I also wear an anorak.
I know that in many ways I am looking after the car for the next owner, but that's the way I've been brought up, and I'm too old to change now.
