Dealer misquoting... how do we feel about this?
Discussion
Evening all,
Quick outline for you:
- Last Wednesday a dealer quoted me for a factory new-build. Quote matched manufacturer configurator, then a discount was applied
- I negotiated on non-cash things (adding a free tyre swap), and asked for the service pack I hadn't asked for to be removed
- On agreement to that I paid a deposit on Friday
- The order confirmation was issued, without the service pack. However, the asking price had gone up because of a manufacturer price rise effective from 1 April. The discount was increased, which left the total price to pay the same as it had been with the service pack on, so effectively passing £299 of the price rise on to me
- I pointed this out, and was told it was the largest discount the dealer had ever given on that model, and that I could cancel or accept. On pushing they offered £100 to spend on accessories
Two possibilities here: it was sharp practice to offer me a quote I would never be able to accept as a teaser then jack it up quietly after I'd paid a deposit, or it was an honest mistake in a busy week. Note that the manufacturer finance contribution was also reduced on 1 April, so I couldn't now go round the corner and get the same deal.
What do we think team? Swallow it, stamp and shout, or flounce off?
2p's gratefully received.
