Save yourself 3 grand and have something nice smile
1 owner from new, 74k on the clock, 231bhp, nearly new Michelin Pilot Sports and it looks immaculate.

Edit: Just noticed you have an SL500 in your garage, is the escort some kind of pleasure/pain experiment in convertibles you've thought of? laugh

I think if I had £9k to spend on a convertible, either of those 2 wouldn't be anywhere close

If you fancy going backwards into a hedge how about an S2000? At least it won't break down before you crash

The R230 SL is well within your price range and a far better car than the SLK IMHO.

As for the Dagenham dustbin. Not even a contender surely.

Could have the VW version for the same money

Still wobbly and white but a VW badge

Both built by Karmann in Germany

I'm inclined to agree with you. I think there's a few, myself included who may be owed a massive whoosh parrot.

Late model CLK 350 Sport. Looks great with the Sport body kit and being the 350 will have more than enough grunt.

You sussed me smile

Wa just idly browsing a car dealers website and those two were next to each other: similar price, similar mileage. No matter how much 80s fast Fords are coming into fashion, and how an SLK is never going to be an ultimate sports car, that Escort is always going to be ineffably c**p compared to that Mercedes!

Crazy, but I bet if properly cared for the Escort will be worth a lot more than £9k in a few years. The Merc, well, not so much...

You're probably right. Fortunately in this case "properly caring for it" would mean not having to drive the thing and avoiding the wobbly chassis and rough-as-f**k CVH engine! wink

Seeing as you have a SL500 I'd go for a four seater but with 8 rather than 4/6 cylinders.
