I'm struggling for inspiration here - I want a fun everyday/weekend addition to the daily X5.

Criteria I've got so far is a coupe, with rear (occasional) seats
petrol and manual
budget is circa 40k
I'm 6ft 4, and don't fit in a boxster/cayman, but am open to suggestions of similar
I've had an e46 M3, so don't think a CSL is on my list (even thought its not a manual). a 911 is always going to be on the inspirational list, but whilst I've experience big bills with car ownership, I don't think I want to take the risk a 12k engine rebuild on one.

An LS swapped TVR would be on my dream list, but not sure how that fits for everyday use exactly

Any suggestions please?

take a browse

https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds?Accelerati...

C63 AMG, Jag XK V8, Maser Gran Turismo, E92 M3, M6, RS5, V8 Vantage, DB7, SL55 AMG, Mustang 5.0 GT, TVR Cerb

The only thing on that list that really gets me going is the Maser, but that is a personal thing, an Aston, AMG Merc, XKR Jag or M3 will all be very capable and quick

I need to go look at a 'stang - they appeal in some ways, but not others

Half the list in the post above don't fit the manual criteria - C63, XKR etc don't have manual boxes to my knowledge. the classified is where I have spent some (a lot of) time recently

Clearly the 4 seat requirement is going to remove a vast swath of the sports options. 997 Gen 2 would probably be the obvious choice, and for good reason.

Leftfield choice an Evora?

I am 6'3" and comfortably fit in either. I don't need 4 seats however so went down the Aston route.

I'd say the Maserati Granturismo in MC Shift or Auto form (which one will depend on your type of driving) & with your budget you'd be looking at the better 4.7 engine.

Neither meet the requirements, the GTR being automatic only and the Noble only having two seats. Terrific cars though, and I would be considering both at this price point.

If you’ve had an E46 M3, have you considered an E9X car? Or even an F80 if within budgets, as I believe some of the earlier cars now will be – although finding a manual would be hard!

Derp, forgot the manual criterium

Either way, plug your demands into the filter and you will end up with a few choices to investigate

You have an X5
have had an e46 M3
need four seats and everyday use

move up to an M5? a range of options from old to new and you should get a really nice one - e39 or e60 you will be getting an impeccable one well within budget...

Interesting, as I'm in the exact same boat. Currently, have an E46 M3 and looking for something newer.

I'm leaning towards a V8 Vantage, as I don't have the 4 seat restriction.

Some other options:

- Golf 7.5 R (manual)
- Golf R estate ?
- RS3 (these might come in manual, not sure)

+1 for the E60 M5, you have enough budget left over to visit Evolve for some goodies!

Funny how everyone seems to be suggesting auto's and some saloons

I think the best so far is 996 Turbo, or maybe try and find a rare manual AM DB9 2+2?

You seem to have got it at least, thanks for the suggestions. The DB9 may be a little rich for my budget, but I certainly like them.

The X5 replaced an E39 M5. The e60 doesn't appeal in this scenario as a saloon and auto only.

the rear seats is about making it more useable; I have the X5 for the space and longer journey requirements

I need to see if I can fit in an Evora comfortably. The elise/exige I don't, which is a big regret. The vantage would likely get passed over for a 997 I think, but a lot of the 997's I see available right now are in insipid colour schemes

They appeal, but don't tick the manual box unfortuantely

The 1M, the E9X are on my list. I've tried a 1M already, which I like, but not the V8 engine. Having had a series of BMW's, and having already having an X5 I feel like I want a change

Has to be the Maserati just for the noise if nothing else.

Can't imagine wanting a manual. Have driven autos for last 8 years - and couldn't now face all the fannying around with a clutch and gearstick.

I know, I know, proper drivers like manuals......well they did until the turn of the century !

If I had £40k for such a vehicle, I'd be giving these chaps a call.
