Merc C-Class Diesel - running/repair costs
Discussion
I ran my last c270 Cdi to 170,000 with nothing but routine maintenance.
I now have a 2006 E280cdi on 175,000, it's had front bushes refreshed, 2 front springs, turbo actuator and routine maintenance. I drive 1000 minutes les a week and was ready to get shut but the garage who look after it say it's good for another 175,000

So when does the gearbox need servicing then?
I'm amazed by your mileage. What's the typical servicing costs on these mercs?
Mercedes will probably require a fluid change at 37.5k to maintain warranty but nothing specified after that. Once the warranty is out they are happy to replace gearboxes at a cost I'm amazed by your mileage. What's the typical servicing costs on these mercs?

My 2011 E220CDi with the last of the 5g boxes is now on 294k and Mercedes didn't specify a fluid change during the warranty period either by mileage or time..I have had it done every 90k miles approx. so it has recently had it's 3rd one. The 5g box is generally bullet proof, certainly less problematical then the 7g.
Apart from that the water pumps tend to go but not that expensive, about £390 at Mercedes cheaper at an indy. Mine lasted 220k miles though so don't worry to much.
Other than that make sure you do a motorway type run every 2 weeks or so to allow the DPF to regen, the car needs to be at full running temp for this to happen, make sure it has a proper service history and you are good for 500k easily.
A typical A service at an indy will be under £200 and a B service probably about £250 ish so not that expensive to service. A gearbox fluid change costs me £160, again at a good indy
C classes of that era were reknown for having annoying dashboard creaks/rattles which were difficult to cure, generally requiring the dash to come out, a big job. TADT Sir according to Merc.
The E is a much better car IMO in terms of comfort, refinement and build quality.
