Got space in the garage and £4/5 max to spend on something.

Don't necessarily want a performance car, but something with a bit of charm and character
A classic so from the 60s/70s
Easy to work on
potentially increasing asset

Only things which spring to mind are VW Beetles and MGB BTs.

Any other suggestions within budget?

Reliant Scimitar Se5A (late 60's early 70's) or an early 6B (late 70's early 80's)

3.0 L Ford essex engine - lovely sound - great looking fastback, and a good steer. Cheap too!

Series 3 Land Rover. Probably not what you are looking for but dead easy to work on.
Triumph Spitfire is possibly just within budget.

I would think you have close to an endless choice of vehicles. All depends what you want really.

Be it Triumph or Rover saloons. A sports car, 4x4 or little run abouts like a Morris Minor, Imp or Mini.

Most things British will have a following and parts supply. But other marques offer lots too.
