Ideas for newish 20k car
Discussion
I am looking to buy a new car.. I do about 10k mainly motorway commute.
I have two kids and although my Mrs has a Qashqai it needs to be able to get both kids in on emergencies/rare occasions (one kid in a lot of the time)
I have had a BMW 320 coupe and currently have a 2.0l tdi A4 auto. so looking for something comfortable but a little more fun. Albeit I do like Autos.
Was thinking of the new a5 or bmw 4 series if I can stretch my budget after thinking a golf gti was too expensive (after the lease deals, also looked at the focus st but maybe a little too young for me and may look like a mid life crisis! In a moment of madness I considered the Kodiaq/Discovery sport but not sure I can bring myself to have the family wagon.. any thoughts appreciated

The Focus ST is a good family car, but I'd avoid if you're doing mainly motorway miles as it can be a bit wearing with firm suspension and lots of engine/road noise. We replaced ours with an M140i auto which seems to have more room inside (3rd rear passenger aside) and a bigger boot and can play the mile muncher or the hooligan depending on your mood. Not sure if you'll get one in budget, but decent lease deals are plentiful and the M135i is also worth a look.

I'd say if you like Autos then the Mercedes E Class is more than worth a look, you can get a nice 500 for your budget:
E500 (I have one of these albeit the 4.7 BiTurbo & can't fault it)

More sensible:
C350 Sport Plus

3.0 Audi S5

Alpina B3 (these are fantastic cars you need to drive one to appreciate how different they are to the regular car) yes I'm bias

435i Sport

335i Sport Plus

M3 Saloon (these are very rare)

From the above it would be the Alpina E500 & then the S5, the first two will eat motorway miles for fun & then when you want to have some fun they'll do that too.
