So, we're shopping for the wife for a runabout (6k miles a year) and I saw a nice 5dr Evoque on the road yesterday so I went to look them up... 5 years old by now, but my god they are still expensive!
To me it seems that either:
Am I just expecting things to drop in value too fast (is 50% over five years and 100k miles the norm?) or do they really keep their value that well despite the fact there are plenty of them?

- They have kept their values EXTREMELY well
- They were sold with a s
tton of options making them very expensive to start with

Massive appeal for the impress your neighbours brigade. Put a private plate on and my Mum and plenty of other non petrol heads would only just be able to tell the difference between a new £70k+ Sport and a 5yo £18k high miler Evoque, given the styling of both current models is very similar.
No matter how aspirational the product is and how brilliant it is as a car when its working properly, FF and Sport RR's depreciate like mad, a big part of that due to the (likely) potential repair costs after they go out of warranty. I love modern RR but not enough to swallow those costs, I would need to have a serious surplus of cash to actually buy one to just not care about the money, either new or 3+ yo. Not many people can afford to haemorrhage £1k a month but plenty would like you to think they can hence the appeal of Evoque.
I've not looked into Evoque reliability or potential repair costs but I've not heard any scare stories either. If its more normal rather than outright scary as with other RR models I can see these at 6years+ being more expensive to buy than the same year/mileage Sport or FF.
To some people Evoque maybe gives 90% of what they want from a RR at a fraction of the cost to both buy and run. That must be a winner.

We just traded our 5yr old evoque and got almost 60% of what we paid for it. They hold their value fantastically.
Nice cars, we had the old diesel engine which was a bit gruff but pulled well enough, mpg was terrible. Handled well for the type of car it is and nice interiors. No reliability issues in the 5yrs we had ours.

Do they really? More so than the competition in the same segments (well equipped X5/ML/...)? I always found them holding their values very well, despite high costs lurking.DTG said:

Just what I've been seeing. I wasn't a fan when they were released, looked more of a fashion statement than anything else to me, but at the right price, they are well equipped, look nice and small enough. I was looking at the 240ps petrol, but prices 2nd hand are very similar. They're out of budget so no worries, but I was surprised at their ability to maintain their values.Nice cars, we had the old diesel engine which was a bit gruff but pulled well enough, mpg was terrible. i got one for my wife on lease as it was cheaper than purchasing a 2nd hand one that will still has depreciation to go - plus the running costs - lease means i still get the warranty.
Actually i find it to be a very good car, well screwed together and very solid. As said before, MPG isn't what they quote like most manufacturers but its been quite reliable. What lets the brand down (to me) is our local dealer - they are absolute tosh.
We ended up with a SE TECH, first of the Ingenium engines - has a decent level of tech without feeling basic. Couldn't justify the 7k to jump to the next trin level, the added features weren't worth it.
Its not a big car though - so make sure it fits everything you need. Coming from an XC90 it was a bit of a tetris moment the first time we went to Ikea!
