Going to look at a private sale, older gent, E320,CDI avantgarde auto 122000m no previous owners he is asking £2.6.

I have an identical car a 2003 E320 Avantgarde and its been superb.

Check for rust in the arches, mine has a bit but nothing that can't be sorted. Check the air suspension is all working if it has its, can be an expensive repair otherwise,

Sounds like a good price, I paid around £4K for mine about a year ago with 102k on the clock,

That straight six engine is excellent by the way. Sounds typically diesel but pulls very well, I was surprised how quick it was from a big non-sporty car,

Had a very similar one.

Two new glow plugs, tyres, brake pads.

Comfy, quiet, relatively frugal.

the ad states new rear shocks in Sept 16 so from that I presume conventional non air suspension.

Roughly what mpg can one expect? Most of my driving is rural A roads.

Well I am back. Car was a bit disappointing. Bodywork had the odd scrape, rust starting in rear arches, the bottom edge of one door and where the rear wiper exits the window(the half moon shaped panel). Whilst the ad stated fsh there were only 3x entries in the service book and the owner had not bothered to retain any invoices. He is 86 yr old,I thought they kept everything.
It did drive well, I had to pump up the tyres for him and it hadnt been cleaned at all!
I did make an offer of £2k then £2.1k and felt he was a bit insulted but more just didnt feel right.
