Must be petrol automatic and won't fall apart on our shocking roads. I'm up and down hills, multistorey car parks, rarely drive over 30. It's not pleasant but has to be done. My present Ka has been christened the dodgem and although I like a challenge it gets wearing after the 30th school run with probably hundreds of gear changes in one journey. Parking spaces are small and congestiin charge a regular issue. Grandma needs to be able to get in and out and remain seated around a bend. The second car Golf Estate auto is smooth enough but diesel so subject to parking increases etc and huge. The Mokka looks about right but hoping to spend a lot less. Maybe a Panda 4x4?

These are excelkent for negotiating potholes. They are a bit expensive to run and it's a diesel, but imagine the road presence!

1360 litres to fill, 500km range smile

You could also offer your services up to the AA - it has a very long winch rope.

This, something a bit taller and wider with thick tyres. Dacia Duster is a goodun', Rav4s are great, Honda CRV, stuff like that.

From a size point of view, a Sandero Stepway might be a better bet - not sure if they do auto in that?

OP, how much (or little) are you hoping to spend - reviews of the Fiat auto/semi-auto boxes always seem to suggest they're not great.

If congestion charge is a regular concern, then how about a hybrid or EV of some kind? Toyota (and Lexus) seem to offer a hybrid version of pretty much everything in their range these days and there's no need to change gear!

The small SUV is quite a recent phenomenon, with the Nissan Juke being the first - one of these could work for you - they aren't very roomy, but I guess they're bigger than a Ka inside, or you could maybe look at something like a Note, Jazz, or Yaris - no extra height, but get one that doesn't have sporty wheels and they should cope with speed bumps, etc. although the Jazz does have quite a hard ride, AIUI.

I'm going to suggest a Vauxhall Mokka for the second time in a week. Small ish, comfy, toys, high enough and takes the bumps with little effort.
