First Car Advice?
Discussion
I'm looking to buy the first car I can legally drive on the roads, I was looking around 80s hot hatches (205 GTI, XR2, XR3i) however they're all collectable and expensive so they're out. Currently the shortlist is:
Focus ST170 (The favourite so far)
E46 3 Series (Not an ES)
MG Metro (Don't laugh)
Anyone got anymore ideas? Everything costs a tonne to insure so my thinking is I may aswell have something better than a PCP Corsa xD

Have you actually checked insurance on those?
Seriously just buy whatever you can insure reasonably cheaply, insurance cost is dead money which you'll never see again. I know you want something interesting and different but in reality whatever you end up driving will be the most memorable car you ever own and the one you look back on with the most fondness even if it's boring and slow.

My first car is a 15 reg Skoda Citigo. It doesn't sound like you're a very young person, but insurance without NCD is still going to be a hit. This car was chosen for cheap insurance.
The Skoda has a 5* safety rating (I can testify that it is built like a tank due to an unfortunate encounter with a bollard by an... erm... acquaintance). Not fast, but if you're good with the pedals you can get perfectly good acceleration off the lights... and it's stableabove at top speed. Naturally aspirated, so you've got to choose the right gear, but I've left people in BMWs who were tailgating through a 30 zone in the dust at NSL transition by using 2nd.
