As we all know cash in the bank is not making anything so I was thinking, what cars could you spend say £30k on which in a years time would still be worth similar money, excluding running costs. Ideally V8 and supercharged!

If you don't mind LHD, probably almost any rare imported American car (Corvette, Mustang, etc) that's more than a few years old.

Evora maybe, although obviously that's a V6 not a V8.

For that money somewhere between 2 or 3 XKr's. They fit the v8 and supercharged bit just not the 30k bit unless you buy more than 1!

Aston V8 Coupe

Beautiful, not massive perceived running costs and quick enough.

As above, V8 Vantage ,prices have held remarkably firm for a few years now. Not supercharged but ticks more boxes than most. You would not be disappointed.

If you can compromise on the V8 then a mk1 Exige.

If not any of the early AMG seem to have bottomed out, C43 / C55 etc...

Some form of well-maintained TVR Cerbera or T350/Tuscan/Tamora if you're not fussed about the V8. I had a T350C that appreciated in value over 18 months, with nothing more than minor repairs and servicing. The Aston is a good bet too. If you're thinking of something long-term, then I would suggest a C63 estate or similar. There are hundreds of C63 saloons and coupés around - the estate variant is much less common and I'm sure will develop a following akin to the Audi RS2 in the future.

Agreed with the V8 Vantage - I didn't lose too much on mine (bought Oct 14, sold Dec 16) even though I was forced to sell it to a trader. If I'd been able to hold out for the right price I reckon I could've sold it for what I paid.

Yep - I've had mine just over 2 years and it's definitely still worth what I paid for it.

18 month ago I was pondering the same and looked at many cars.

After months of test drives and flirting it came down to TVR Tuscan and V8 Vantage as others have pointed out. I really wanted the Vantage because it's class. But there was no contest as the Tuscan was much more exciting, sounded better and in a different league performance wise.

However the Vantage would be the better choice if your going to use as a car to do car stuff rather than just garaged weekend sunshine toy as you can relax driving it with quality is superior to the TVR.

Both are appreciating. The Tuscan has probably increased 10% in 12 months. I guess the Vantage would be similar. You also have the choice between 4.3 and 4.7 with the Vantage and you can tell the difference in performance.

had a Cerbera 4.2 before, my only problem with a TVR is serviceing and repair down here in the south west. As for Jaguar, Aston and Merc I have local decent servicing and repair.

How about a GT-R seem to be hold value, albeit might need a little more than £30k for a decent latter model.
