£10k 50mpg drivers car?

Another dull 'what car?' thread, sorry. To be fair, it's my first.

Needs to be daily useable but does not need more than two seats, necessarily (i.e. Audi TT diesel but those are too pricey still). I'm 6-4 though so nothing too little. Coupe, hatch, whatever so long as it's got some entertainment factor. I'm guessing it'll be a diesel at that price/economy point but would love alternative petrol suggestions if they exist.

LCI E90? You'd get a nice low miler 318d or 320d for your budget, or a higher mileage big engined car.

635d genuinely capable of 50mpg and amazing performance too. 535d E60 would do the trick as well.

4 cylinder reliability is bad compared to 6 cylinder. M57 engined BMW's are very solid engines, N47 is not at all. Neither is the N57 engines as they had tensioner issues and that would be an engine out job due to the chain of the engine moving to the back of the engine and not the front.

Now that I think of it, 325d e92 would be good, or 330d/335d.

E90 325i 2.5 and fit it with LPG. Revvy n/a 6 pot, RWD with 6mt, and easily over the equivalent of 50mpg on a run. That's the only way I can imagine a non diesel fulfilling your criteria

If you can cough up another 5k or so the new ND Mx5 1.5 can supposedly hold around 50mpg from its lightweight frame & little revvy 4 pot petrol. You don't get much more 'drivers car' than that

There are a few options most will be diesel very few will be a driver's car but there's one that stands head & shoulders above the rest is the Alpina D3.

given your history i wouldn't describe an audi diesel as a driver's car. for more feel i'd look towards a warm hatch (suzuki) that gives good mpg along with more feel to the steering, brakes and chassis. a used MX5 ND 1.5 would be ideal.

It's marked as 47mpg. I think even at 58mph on the motorway for hundreds of miles it would struggle to hit 55mpg. Maybe 51/52, but certainly not with mixed driving.

Yeah a 2014. On my last motorway trip it got 52mpg (on the computer) at a steady 75mph. It's very good. But a cross country commute would see 40 quite easily. My commute is 4 miles, 30, 40, and 50mph and I get about 35 mpg.

Fiesta ST-2 can pick a 15 plate up at around £10k and at 180BHP in a small car they pack a punch! great drivers car, great fun and offer around 48mpg.

For information though, I'm sad enough to have worked out the commute reads about 7% high. 50mpg on the computer works out to be about 46 ish in real terms.
