I currently own a Golf GTI MK6 , Stage 2 and 285 BHP mods include a full milltek , ramair induction kit, genuine carbon fibre spoiler etc. but I am just getting a bit bored of it!

Looking at my options I would have probably around 15-17k for my next car which is quite frustrating as I cannot find a genuine upgrade within that price. I have looked at m135i's but am open to suggestions!

Thanks in advance.

£15-17k can get you an awful lot of speed if that's what you're thinking.

You could pick up the likes of a CLS/E/SL55 AMG for example, shouldn't have sky high mileage but will have around 460bhp and 500lbs of torque. That would be a pretty good step up on performance although don't expect cheap running costs. That was the step I took from my Megane 225 Trophy which was running about 260bhp and sold it to go towards a CLS63.

I'd consider any of the bigger german cars with V8s to be a good step up from an undoubtedly quick hot hatch. smile

What have you decided? Still undecided on what to change my mk6 gti for.... natural progression would be the 7R, but tempted to try something different

I would say 7R too, as the other cars you would need to get something fairly old, maybe higher mileage. At least with the VW the costs wouldn't be as much, compared to the Merc etc. I would try up the budget to a 7R, but maybe keep your 6 and save some money until you get something newer.

Maybe a Scirocco R, they look pretty good.

My neighbours were selling their M135i for about 7k and even with low mileage they couldn't shift it, so if you definitely want to change then you might get some nice deals on one of those and have cash left over.

You probably mean a 135i E82.

M135i residuals against new transaction prices at the max discount have been superb and have particularly held well over the past 2 months or so for some reason.

I wouldn't say the VW would be much cheaper than a V8, yes there are the running costs but VW's seem to go wrong more than big V8's, engine wise i'd take my chance with a lazy V8 over a highly strung 2.0

and as for choices leaning towards:

M135i, M3 , 235I or maybe even a mk2 Focus RS!
