Dealer selling a car I have reserved
Discussion
I rang them on Monday to speak about a car, paid a reservation fee and they agreed to ship to my local dealer..
I have had emails this week offering Gap Insurance, wheel and tyre cover and even a finance quote even though I told them it would be a cash buy.
Gets a phone call today, unfortunately the car I wanted has been involved in an accident, presumably during the shipping process but they have found me a similar one which is abit more expensive...
Rings the dealer where the car was meant to be shipped from, salesman tells me he has seen in it on the forecourt today but its not on his system anymore so might have been sold.
Will be an interesting conversation when my local dealer calls me back tomorrow morning.

It's in an accident on the way - but they happen to have a "nearly" identical car - just a bit more expensive...
Of course They do show the reg number on the website... I wonder if the reg numbers may be identical - nah - that would never happen you don't get two cars with the same registration do you..?

How rare a car (or just spec/condition) is it?
Could you find another easliy enough, or is this a "one turns up once every few years" job?
Its not particularly rare, Shouldn't be too difficult to find another one kicking around, just slightly annoyed that I planned to go and see this one at weekend and had pretty much everything agreed in principle for a deal..Could you find another easliy enough, or is this a "one turns up once every few years" job?

They do show the reg numbers and unfortunately the one they have offered me is a different colour so I know its not the same. Feels to me like they have sold the car but don't want to admit it..Of course They do show the reg number on the website... I had a similar situation with a bike I bought online.
After ordering it the delivery system didn't change for over a week so I called them up, it turned out they couldn't find it in the warehouse and it was assumed sold. As it was an end of year model he told me his only option was to either give me the new model or find me what I'd ordered from another dealer. As it happened he ended up buying me a bike from someone else then sending it to me for £400 less than he had paid for it.
Difference is you have 'only' paid a deposit but in principle it's the same, they should sell you the other car for your agreed price if it's their mistake.
