Hi,

I have been looking at the S3 8P Market (06-10) for about a year to replace my Clio 200.

Are these every going to come down in price?! They have stagnated at about £10k for a while now, I am not too sure people are throwing £10k at these with the lease culture we have going on, especially as some are now 11 years old.

Any chance of them coming into £5k realm? I just don't see how they command £10k in this day.

Only the low mileage ones are 10k, and I can't ever see 261bhp low mileage Audis dropping to 5k.

Well yes forgive me for not looking at the leggy ones, and yeah that is true.

I mean, low mileage hot hatches with less power than that aren't much less (maybe 7/8/9k depending on the marque), so I can't see Audis dropping.

Arent they meant to be rather dull cars? Maybe worth looking at other options.

This is ones point!

I have heard they are dull too, I just need a nice place to sit while I commute. Years in a clio 200 with cup packs will do that to you..

The prices for the 8P S3 definitely seem pretty mental for a car that is on an almost 15 year old platform, especially the last run facelifts which are now overlapping with the Mk7 Golf GTI (yeah I know its not 4WD but still)

I bought one tail end of last year with 60k on it or something with full audi history with a nice spec and 1 owner, I think I paid 9500 for it. Which I thought was a good price at the time, and he had plenty of other people after it.

It isn't the most exciting car in the world but its got quite a nice interior considering its age, still looks half decent when clean and shifts along alright (in the first couple of gears anyway).

The reason they command money probably a combo of the above and it doesn't look like a dogs dinner like many of the newer hotter hatches do with 18 exhausts etc. I mainly bought it as I didn't want to lose a ton of cash for when I probably buy an M3 shortly.

Haha, love it!

Exactly! The new RS3 looks far better with the larger two IMO. 4 looks even a bit silly on an M3!

Thanks, a fairly "typical" review of these.

So I ask, is it worth me diving I. For a well looked after example? Or shall I be lookin elsewhere. Just interested in your opinion, thanks again.

I'd say test drive one as the ride is not great weather it's as bad as the Cup only you can decide. If you look at most of the hot hatches they're not losing loads in terms of depreciation vs original cost.

The prices for the facelift and in particular the black editions haven't moved by much since I was looking a couple of years ago eek

They seem a good allround package and are fairly discrete so i suppose there will always be a market for them.

Well, only you know whether its worth it to you. Certainly they do not offer 'value' like a Mazda 3 MPS might, but they are a nice car and still look good. There are good examples out there, certainly worth looking for one, many have been ragged to death by chavs. Mine was one owner who had every thing that had ever happened to it, both keys, and was very very well looked after. It was a big factor in me buying it.

up to £8k, 12.5 miles each way daily commute - A road blast 10 miles and rest moderate traffic, I average 25mpg in a clio at the moment and only ever use V-max, so economy not an issue, although please don't reccomend a Monaro, etc, my wallet is not that big smile

I think that you would miss the fun of driving your clio and sell up quickly. 12.5 miles isnt very far. Id stick with the clio.

Similar commute to me (16 miles) and I have averaged 27mpg in my S3 over the last 7000 miles.

I've owned it 10 months and am looking to change. As above, it looks smart, is a nice place to sit, it's pretty practical, stats look decent on paper but it's just a bit.... Dull. There isn't really anything wrong with it but nothing I'll miss in getting rid of it.

I had an s2000 as a fair weather / weekend toy as well but now the Audi is my only car I literally never find myself taking the long scenic route home for a hoon.
