I need to swap my brand new M2 for a four door with a decent sized boot, and want something fast, fun, and with a nice interior.

The new RS3 sportback seems to fit the bill, but I'm wondering what else could fit the bill. An RS4 Avant could do, but the reviews suggest it's really not much fun to drive and an RS6 and RS7 are getting too big.

So, any thoughts?

Probably looking around £50k.

I've not sat inside one; does it have a nice interior? The Audi's is pretty special.

Do you like your M2? If you do, what about going for an F80 M3?

I'm looking for the same thing, albeit with a lesser budget.

Currently keep coming back to the CLA45 AMG. The RS3, Focus RS, RSQ3, Golf R all seem to do the same things well. Jag XFR is perhaps a bit of a left-field choice but i am warming to them. Depreciation is likely to be a killer.

The interior is very cheap.

RS3 saloon must be worth a look. To my eyes, it is better looking than the sportback.

That's not a bad call. One thing putting me off a little bit is that I sold my immaculate C63 to get the M2, so it feels like the round-trip has just left me with two extra doors, and £10k worse off.

I'm torn between a size down or just accepting that "fun" may need to be compromised a bit and getting an RS4.

I'd forgotten that the C63 came in a saloon. I did like my coupe.

Have a look at a Porsche Macan S (petrol).
A great car and if you keep the options at a reasonable level, a new one is possible for around 50k.

How big does the boot need to be? The one is the RS3 Sportback is fairly small.

Small pram, baby paraphernalia, etc.

Lots of nice suggestions above, but it's so hard to know what to get. The M2 is excellent, but I just can't see that it's going to be nice to have a baby seat in, being only a two door.

Maybe I'm being daft. Maybe it's just fine, and the ten minutes of fannying about getting the seat in and out isn't so much of a problem.

I do live in London, and rarely drive, but I also really fancy the new RS3, and an S4, tuned, and an RS4 Avant, and a Macan, and an M5, and, frankly, keeping my R8...

I'd want better spec than that. It's a bit more practical for prams.

Thanks. I didn't even know that these existed. The interior is so much nicer than it was in my C63.

I'm totally lost again. I think I might just get out and use the M2 for now, and worry about later later.

I disagree. It's very typical Ford in terms of design but the touch points are all good and the seats are better than those in any other similar car. It has some cheap plastics yes, but then so does an M2.

The disappointing I terror in the M2 is one of the reasons I was tempted back towards an Audi. It's not great in what apwas a £52,000 car.
