So i usually lurk however I need some ideas, so decided to post.

I am starting a new job in September, which means new commute. I have decided that a new car is needed/wanted, at the moment I have a Subaru legacy diesel. This commute is a mix of fast a roads and b roads.

Ideally the car would be fun to drive at speed that allow me to keep my licence. As it's a daily it needs to be reliable and hugely thirsty. Budget around 6k.

At the moment I am considering a rover mini MPi however these of course have numerous downsides how ever are extremely fun and eye catching.

So any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Well the simple answer is either of Renaults RS offerings or the Focus ST (they don't drink as much as people say mine 360bhp version averaged 25mpg) they're a very good car just not as sharp as the RS models.

Clio RS 197 (Try to find one with the Recaros & Cup Chassis)

Focus ST-3

Megane RS230 F1 R26

If it has to be diesel then you could do a lot worse than the Megane RS175dci

or an Alpina D3:

Make sure there's records of the belts being done, check for any clunking from the front over bumps and give the gearbox a good stir.

The 200s are famous for gearbox issues but it's a mixed bag and lots have had no issue at all while then there's bee enough that you'll want to make sure it's not crunching up and down the box as well goes into gear without too much resistance beyond a typical notchyness.

That said they're amazing cars, still would say they handle better than their bigger brother. Just don't have the same power.
