I didn't realise it was a quiz and had to give the answer you wanted...

Is the 'something' like a mystery box?

more seriously, the ignis sport gets a lot of love on here https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...

And, as a fan boy, I must recommend an RS Clio https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...

A very fun, nippy and reliable little car. As an all-rounder, this would get my vote.

As another fellow fan boy, i must recommend not buying this example, as it's wildy overpriced, in my eyes!

I really should have noted that I picked the first ones I saw! I would expect a cleanish 182 for that price or a very ropey 197

Yeah deffo. I also spotted the yellow fog-lights which would put me off a bit too. You'd be surprised now, you can get pretty decent 197's for less than 3k. They don't seem to be as popular as the 172's and 182's, probably due to them being a fair bit less frugal.

Fiesta isn't a bad choice, 3k will now get you an early Mk7 with a 1.25 or 1.4 engines, or a very tidy Mk6.

There are some pretty good Japanese small cars in your budget as well e.g.
Suzuki Swift
Honda Jazz
Toyota Yaris

I know it's PH, but the OP specifically asked for cheap to run and tax so why is everyone directing him to warm/hot hatches?

I have ran my 133 for just short of 5 years with no issues at all and being a cup there are only around 150 on the road so a bit exclusive also.
