Timings of settling lease early and new lease

I have a new lease car coming mid-septemberish,
My current lease (VW) officially expires in December, but I can settle it early to coincide with the new car.
My lease payment is due on the 8th of every month.
What happens when you settle early? Do you get much leeway in when BCA pick the old car up?
If I settle after the next payment on Sept 8th, then can BCA be fairly quick to collect?
What are people's experiences on the end of lease pickups by BCA?

(I have emailed VW but sometimes practise isn't what they think it is)

VWFS will want the car back within 3 weeks of termination. How quickly they get it depends on your location and availability and the availability of the someone to firstly inspect the car and then again to collect it.

VWFS say the time around new registrations is pretty chaotic, so looks best to settle the agreement at beginning of September for a pickup in second or third week.
