Hey all,

I posted on here last year looking for a shed but unfortunately had to spend my grand on other grown up things. I'm looking at a bigger car for my family than my 52 plate astra.

My astra past its mot last oct and has been a great car but I am ready for something else.

I was thinking along the lines of a Mazda 6, Toyota Avensis, Pug 407/407sw or Mondeo.

The one thing I don't know about is Diesel or petrol. I did want a Diesel because I'm hopefully moving a bit further away from work so will more travelling to do but it will still ultimately be town driving 90% of the time. Also with the government doing a U turn on the whole Diesel thing I'm thinking the higher tax & less economy of a petrol may not be such a bad thing.

Any thoughts or opinions would be muchly appreciated.

Also just for the record I would like a lot of comforts in the car if at all possible because I tend to sit in my car an awful lot, so preferably not basic models. I know I'm asking a lot but I know there are a lot of cars out there so there must be the right one for me.

All the cars you list sound fine, I would focus on getting something in good condition with such a limited budget rather than focusing on a particular model, as really any family sized car would suit just buy what you can find that's newest, lowest miles, best service history etc.

Wow those are some nice cars. The older shape mondeo does look appealing but sometimes when i look at them they look very dated.

The last Avensis looks very nice i like that dark shade to them.

I have noticed they all seem to be automatics. Ive nothing particularly against autos but i do get very bored driving them so maybe thinking manual.

Thanks for your replies so far though. On the subject of "other cars over french cars" i thought that wasnt so bad over the last 10 years or is it still the way? Peugeot and citroen always seems extremely well equipped.

It seems the well spec'd petrols seem to be autos just one of those things the more basic models seem to manuals one thing to consider is that if you get a Manual then you might have to change the clutch which may not be a cheap job depending on the car, on the flip side if you get an Auto make sure you change the fluid & filter.

French car wise the Renaults seem to have window regulator issues from time to time but the Peugeot suffers from looks issues.
