Hallo all, I've been driving around six months and have finally come to terms with the fact that any even somewhat performance based car is going to cost me a small loan of a million dollars to insure and isn't really realistic within the next unknown number of years.

So, in light of this horrendous and quite frankly appalling (in my eyes) revelation I've re-prioritized what I'm looking for in my next car.

Rather than something quick i want something that has enough power hold its speed going up a hill on a motorway but give me the most comfortable experience doing so. Essentially i want something practical and comfortable (I'm also quite big on having more than 5 seats but not entirely essential.)

Any ideas or suggestions? Your all a lot more knowledgeable than me.

Been looking a bit at the honda f-rv but only the 1.7 petrol would be affordable insurance wise and the fuel economy on that model isn't great. Apart from that I've been looking at a couple of MPV's, i like the luxury based saloons but again insurance won't cover the sort of engines they usually come with.

Get something with a gearbox, then.

Hilarious, was talking moreso about the fact my corsa cant hold its speed in such scenarios but your comedy is very much appreciated.

Something with a diesel engine will be good for hills, the torque will help push you up!

A far more helpful Nick has appeared. Cheers but was thinking more of any specific cars people might have in mind?

Volvo S40 / V50 diesel would be on my list if I had requirements like yours. Nice and comfortable, well put-together and safe.
