Ideas for a daily with £10k budget
Discussion
Hi All,
My criteria is as follows:
£10k budget, I want to pay cash and don't really want to get involved with finance
4 doors, saloon preferable
Performance needs to be strong, I know 0-60 is not everything, but anything around the 6 second mark and below will be considered
Reliable, I don't want constant repair bills running into the thousands, the car will be used daily
Petrol, I don't want a diesel, I don't do enough miles to warrant it and just don't like them
Automatic preferable, I will be using this for the commute and fancy something where I don't have to stir the box constantly
DAB & Bluetooth, I want to be able to play my music through the car without having to change the stereo etc. I am on android.
The sort of cars I have been thinking of are the Audi S4 and the BMW 335i. What other options would people recommend?

I think a 10k BMW 335i won't be a great idea, at least not without a warranty, the costs of which can add up quickly (I think you'd be looking at 40/50 quid a month, and that's only whilst it remains under a certain mileage cap). The dual turbos are meant to be at risk of failure and are expensive to repair. The non-turbo 330i would probably be a better shout at that price.
What about the Insignia VXR?
What about the Insignia VXR?
Thanks guys.
Ah I might rule the 335i out then, thanks for the heads up on that.
Any know issues with the 2006/07 S4?
I looked at the VRS as well, what I like about that is that it is a much newer car, but it's a Skoda. Can I get over that............
I will check out the Mercs aswell.........

That would be my choice too, I ran one for almost four years(paid 10k at the time) and it was completely faultless, it's not the most exciting car in fairness but it has a lovely engine and I found it to be very cheap and dependable to run, although I thought the 26mpg was quite poor for the performance it offered. Or if you don't mind being a second slower a C280 isn't a bad shout:

The 335i isn't that bad most have had the wastegates sorted & if it's really a worry for you then take out a warranty, the S4's can have timing chain problems & they're at the back of the engine.
Or you could go for a bigger car with an N/A engine:
528i (with the 3.0 engine)

R36 Passat

3.6 Passat CC

Insignia VXR (these need to be mapped to open up the midrange but they're a good car)

Or the more subtle non VXR version but you'd have to map it for it to be in the sixes:

Jaguar XF 4.2 Premium Luxury

Or you could go down the semi classic route:

C32 AMG
