Road trip to Geneva car buying advice!

Any advice on what to buy is very welcome!

I'll be going in convoy to Geneva in March 2018 with my brother (M4 '16 plate) and his mate (Arbarth 595) from Manchester.

We've not got time limits, but as you can imagine we're not going to hang around.

I don't own a car right now as I live city centre and don't need on, last one was a Clio 182 which I miss every day.
I have given myself a budget of £1500 for something reliable and interesting (and hopefully a little bit nippy). Not enough money?

My first thoughts were towards a Merc SLK Kompressor or a Mitsubishi FTO, found a couple on Autotrader app, something like that. I have no shame, so could be as garish or crap as far as my cash will stretch.

I might try to sell it when I'm back, but it's not a must.

Also any tips on recommended prep would help too! Thinking back to the Top Gear challenges, they must have gone through some specific checks before driving to Nazareth etc!

Any advice is hugely appreciated!

There will be many people along saying they are not reliable but if you know how to handle it they are fine and £1500 buys you a nice example.
