Tiguan R line - noisy?

I test drove a tiguan r line 2.0 150 tdi last week and I was really surprised at the road noise, it was as noisy as my A3 with the same engine and gearbox. Is this normal? At that price level I would have expected a bit more, I don't know...refinement?

The Audi is the more expensive brand in the lineup so why would you think the next brand down would be more refined>

Hasn't the R line got massive wheels / low profile tyres?

My neighbour has a lower spec Tiguan (SE?) with small wheels and on the short trip I spent in it the road noise wasn't too intrusive.

What else are you considering? I'm going to be looking at a Tig soon.

Get a Seat Ateca, or Renault Kadjar. The reviews on them are pretty glowing from what I remember.

If I had to go up from my VW R estate, it would be a petrol Seat Ateca (especially if/when they release the Cupra version).

One's 22k one trim up from entry level one's 34k top spec which would you expect to be quieter?

Q3 black edition, A4, or bmw x1. Ruled out the q2 just like my A3 inside

Not sure i'd go for an A4 again, inside is very plasticy.

How big does Tig compare to the Q3?

New T-Roc might be worth a look although it's going to be around the same size as a Q2.
