Replace K11 Micra with what....

I keep a '99 K11 (100k) as a runabout. While I still don't do much driving in it, it was fine when it was local or city driving. But these days its most often a short hop down the motoway to a kids match or such. The Micra is just unsuitable for it. Looking for something similarly simple, cheap and bullet proof, as a 2nd car. petrol, A hatch back, 4 doors AC. 3 belts in the rear. Again it will be something cheap, maybe 07~06. Any suggestions? Budget about 2~3K. If I could pick up some ex-OAP 1.6 or such might. Our other car is a MPV.

How about a Focus? You should be able to get one that fits what you're after.

K12 Micra? Get a 160sr

The focus comment is a sensible one, 2-3k buys a lot of focus. I wouldn't overlook anything at that budget, we were looking at honda civics before we bought a money pit mercedes.
