In the above situation, do I just do the normal V5 stuff? I wondered if I should do the "exporting" section on the V5, but I'm not exporting it, the buyer is. Am I right?

You aren't exporting it, but you're not changing the RK to another UK name/address - and he's not got a UK address to register it to before export.

So there's not much option but to do the export section... It's being exported - who's actually doing the exporting isn't what DVLA want to know. They just want to know that it's no longer in your name in the UK.

Speak to the buyer first. Has he or she bought cars from the uk previously do you know?

Is it a high price transaction? Get proof of his identity like passport for example

Depends what you mean by high value! More than a couple of grand but less than 5 figures. A lot of money for me! I had already thought I wanted to get some ID. He is paying by cash and I will take him to the bank to pay in so hopefully pretty safe.

NI just treat as normal, Southern treat as an export, they don't need to tax it in the UK, that is there responsibility when they register it locally.

Yes - that'll be because NI is the same country as the rest of the UK, while "Southern" isn't...

I'm in the same process at the present, did you find the definitive answer? The log book doesn't quite cover this as i'm not exporting it.

Just complete and return the export section of the V5 to the DVLA. The out-of-state buyer will need all other sections when they import and register it in Rep of Ireland.

See here guys: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/167212/resp...

What to do if you are selling your vehicle privately to someone
that does not have a GB address
You should fill in sections 6 and 10 with the new keeper’s name and address.
Both you and the new keeper (buyer) must sign and date the declaration in
section 8. Give the whole V5C to the new keeper to aid registration abroad.
You should then send a signed letter to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1AG giving
the vehicle’s registration number, the make and model of the vehicle, the
date of sale or transfer, and the name and address of the new keeper.
Once we know about the change of keeper, you should receive an
acknowledgement letter to confirm that you are no longer responsible for
the vehicle. If you do not receive the letter within 4 weeks, please phone
0300 790 6802. If you are deaf or hard of hearing and have access
to a textphone, phone 0300 123 1279 (this number will not respond to
ordinary phones).

Really sorry, I can't remember what I did now. I do know that I regret selling the car though.
