New family car on finance
Discussion
Been lurking for a while and I know this forum knows its Audis and VWs.... would really appreciate any advice.
The family car is due a change but have been holding off doing anything while sales of new continue to drop off. A relative has got in touch with an end of Q2 PCP deal which is for an A4 Avant 2.0 Ultra 150ps in sport spec. They'll take in our car worth £4k as up-front payment and then it's £280 per month thereafter for 4 years based on 10,000. The wife is totally wooed by this and wants us to act but I don't think it's that great a deal as the relative makes out.
Instead I'm pushing back with the Tiguan 2.0Tdi SE Nav 150ps on a 3+23 lease for £255p/m based on same 10,000. It's not as much car but at about £7k overall I'm more confident on this.
Am I passing up a good offer on the Audi? I much prefer the simpleness of lease but I've looked at so many options I'm blind to it all now! My preference would be to swoop in March when retail will really be struggling but the current car isn't going to make it through winter without spending more notes on it.
Thanks

What is wrong with it?As to the rest, don't forget to figure in your deposit for the next car into your calculations. All too many look at the monthly rate and forget they traded in a few k worth of car to get that.
As mentioned
Where is the "next" £4k deposit coming from? It certainly wont be from equity in the Audi at the end of the PCP
Check the prices available for the Audi on the likes of Orangewheels, then check what your PX is worth on WBAC etc
I assume you have a copy of the PCP quote? You can use www.pcpcal.co.uk with the lowest price for the Audi and the best PX offer to see if £280 is on the money or not

Suspension, plus it's smoking and a service is upcoming. Been a great car and we've run it into the ground while kids have been at nursery. Totally get your points about the next deposit - we're going to have a bit more disposable income going ahead so felt it's time to treat ourselves a little bit.As to the rest, don't forget to figure in your deposit for the next car into your calculations. Thanks for the advice both, will check those links

Seems like I should be paying around the £350p/m mark on the Avant, and my deal has just improved another £20. Starting to get hard to ignore
Have you looked at the 2 year PCH deals? I swear they were comfortably under the £300 mark a couple months ago?Disregard this, can't seem to find them now.

https://www.contracthireandleasing.com/main-dealers/swansway-audi-carlisle/audi/a4/227117525/This may be worthwhile looking at. Same car as your friend is quoting for but with the 1.4 TSI petrol engine instead. I understand that this engine is reasonably economical and should be adequate if your 10k mileage pa is an accurate reflection of what you will do in it.
Saves you having to find much of a deposit as well since the initial payment is only £747.33 with no admin fee. In fact, it is quite similar to the Tiguan but closer to what your wife wants perhaps?
The same dealer is also offering a 4 year lease which is even less per month but I'm not sure leasing makes much sense beyond 3 years (and the end of the car's warranty).

Based on what numbers exactly?
What spec & price is the Avant?
What is the deposit, GFV and rate?
OK so the Avant is £33k, £4k trade in as deposit, final value is £13k and APR3.9.What spec & price is the Avant?
What is the deposit, GFV and rate?
The £13k GFV is low imo, but then again diesels may be so toxic in 4 years that may be the reality?
@madmatteo - that's fantastic, going to take a look

Toxic one word...This is why I'm just so unsure about PCP next, been bitten on the rear end big time trying to shift my A4 now. The £13k GFV is low imo, but then again diesels may be so toxic in 4 years that may be the reality?

Sline will have better residual/trade in so bear that in mind.
Skoda Superb 2.0TDI's Sports are hovering around the 300 p/m on lease ATM Inc VAT!!
I would take one of these over an A4.

Just to add - the S Line Avant with the 1.4 TSI petrol engine (150hp) is actually only £10pm (inc VAT) extra per month more than the Sport model. Payments work out at £782.46 (with no fees) for the initial and £260.82 pm on a 3+23 basis with 10k pa. Details here - https://www.contracthireandleasing.com/main-dealer...Sline will have better residual/trade in so bear that in mind.
Also, if you were still minded to go for the 2.0 TDI Ultra (as quoted by your friend), then this lease is still cheaper with payments £256.49 (inc VAT) pm and an initial payment/deposit of around £1,000 (inc VAT and fees). Details here https://www.contracthireandleasing.com/independent...
You may also be able to find an Audi dealer who will match the 2.0 TDI Ultra deal but with no admin fee making it cheaper still.
Best of luck.
You can get a nearly new (2017 low miler) for 18-19k, that's asking price too, see autotrader
Take the main dealers finance on HP to get a further discount, hand in your p/ex at 4k as you say, 13-14k loan balance. Pay it off with a personal 3% bank loan a week later, will come in at your £300 a month mark and you will own the car.
As you are a low mileage user it will still be in great nick when its paid off.

Brilliant, the PCP deal is out of the window altogether based on that.
