Volkswagen Fox
Discussion
Hi, guys.
Just been out with the other half today - ended up putting £100 down on a 2007 Fox 1.2. You know how it is - go out for some milk; come back with a car.
Anyway: She’s learning at the moment, and she’s already been bitten by a KA (not saying anything bad about the engine - but it was rusted to the gunnels), so she wants something that’s actually going to see its next MOT. Checked the MOT history on this one, and it all looks good - so no worries there.
It’s got just under 82,000 on the clock, and it’s had the clutch changed recently. It drives very smoothly - with the gearbox being the smoothest bit - but it’s got no service history, which is the only bit I’m really concerned with. The car was priced with no service history (I imagine - it was £1,200 after a little bit of bartering) - but is it really a massive issue on these engines if it’s got no history? The oil is fine, and there are no leaks anywhere - so, as much a gamble as it is, should it be a massive concern that it doesn’t have history?
In general, I guess I’m just asking for any advice regarding what to look out for - either any tell-tales now or things to look-out for in the future. We’re both new to German cars (I’m secretly jealous, as I’m a German car fan - especially VAG vehicles!), and - whilst this one was built in Mexico - it doesn’t seem too bad.
Any advice, though?
Thanks very much.
