I’m in something of a quandary: I’m looking for a large estate to replace my Avensis 2.2 with 210k miles.
Option 1: 2016 VW Passat estate, great condition 20k for £15k private sale, 18 months warranty left.
Option 2: 2014 Volvo V70 D5 manual, average condition, 17k for £15.3k, useless dealer, no warranty, last service stamp missing
I drive about 30k a year and definitely looking for reliability and long distance comfort. The Volvo just feels a more comfortable place to be, nothing wrong with the VW just very German. Depreciation after three years and 100k will be about the same. My head says VW if just for the warranty.
Any thoughts much appreciated…

Neither.

I would go for a Volvo, just not that one.

Best seats on the market and a great engine.

Get one in great condition, from a decent dealer with FDSH.

They're not exactly rare.

This.

Also, for your annual mileage, look for an auto. I've had two D5 Volvos, one manual and now an auto, the auto is by far the better option with the D5 and barely less economical.

Thanks Both,

Deerfoot - I've looked at few V70s and XC60s now and they all seem to have a crack to the driver seat covering facing the door where it folds when sat on but is this really normal?

The Volvo feelslike the right car but the warranty on the VW makes a lot of sense.

I should have taken the time to Google the seat cracking - apparently very common.

yes My XC60 had that crack but my V60 hasn't (just rolled past 70,000 miles).
