I'm due to buy a second hand car 2014 nissan xtrail 1.6 dci diesel and noticed on the invoice the seller (trade) had a charge of £115 on as VED.

Is this correct? As I will have to buy road tax too or is this the same thing? Slightly confused...
Thanks,

They are the same thing, he shouldn't be charging you for it.

Hi Md,

I did see that page but it says "New Cars" This is second hand. Slightly confused is all.

If you own and use a car in the UK you’ll need to pay road tax. On April 1st 2017, a new set of road tax, or Vehicle Excise Duty (VED), bands was introduced by the Government for all new vehicles purchased after that date.

The problem can occur when the owner is changed, when this happens, any outstanding VED on the car gets refunded to the old owner. To save confusion, I'd ask him to remove the fee from the invoice and you pay it yourself before you leave the dealership.

MMM, Guess I'll get him to remove before I pay off the remainder. Did see this charge though. Row D
