I'm considering buying a used petrol 3 series estate but it doesn't have a fitted sat nav and it's a feature I definitely want on my next car.

The car is at a BMW dealership so I'm wondering whether as part of the deal to buy the car they would be willing to retro fit sat nav into the system.

It would be useful to know whether people on here think it's a possibility and also what the cost (to the dealership) it's worth.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

What year/ generation of 3er is it?

Regardless, it will almost certainly not be worth the dealers while to contemplate retrofitting sat nav. Plenty of them had it factory fitted - move on and find another IMO.

It's a 2013 63 reg with only 25k on the clock.

I'm after a petrol 2.0l auto and they're as rare as hens teeth hence why I'd like this particular car

Can you not fit something aftermarket and then return to standard when you sell on eventually?

Not sure what you mean by "fit"?

I've already got a Tomtom but want something pretty permanent that can be left in the car all the time, but without the worry of it being stolen.

I believe there are companies that will retro fit the nav, i all honestly Waze is better and i very much doubt a dealer will get involved in a retro fit

Why does it need to be the 2.0 petrol? Probably the weakest engine in the range hence not many about. 3.0 petrol would be ideal, and the 3.0 diesel is frankly a great engine, incredibly torquey.

I've recently sold my 328i F31 auto hehe

I found Waze to be better than the Pro Sat Nav in the 3 series. It's obviously not integrated, but for real time routing, etc, it was better especially when on our summer holiday in France and Switzerland.

I thought it would be easier since the car already has a screen fitted, but turns out it's still an incredibly involved process with parts alone costing at least £500, and probably lots of labour if the dealer was even willing to contemplate hacking into the electrics:

I'd bet there is a 0% chance the dealer would even attempt this - they'll wait for a more straightforward buyer.

Why do you say it's the weakest engine in the range?

I'm limited by budget and the 3 litre petrol will gobble fuel for fun. As for diesels? My type of driving and journey distances just won't work with them.

This is the car I fancy. Had a drive and it was very nice.

A 2013 2.0 petrol with be the 184BHP 2.0 Turbo petrol unit. Quite a decent engine.

I dont think theres a pups chance the dealer will attempt a retrofit.

Either find a car with NAV or use a 3rd party device.

I've driven various 328/428i's and really rate it, yes ultimately the 335/435i are nicer but the 2.0 is a great engine for every day use. the 3.0 diesels are ok and i prefer the 330to335d but in all honestly i would choose the 3.0 over it.

The dealer won't retrofit the Nav, your only answer is to find one with it fitted:

BMW 328i M Sport this is the one to get

320i Sport

Yes, I've already seen those two on AT. The 328 is a budget buster while the 320 could be of interest.

I seriously wouldn't trust a dealer to retrofit.

Car is out of warranty so find a independent willing to bung one, he'll do a better job.

You can absolutely refit OE nav to that car, although I already had it on mine, I have retrofitted a whole host of other things.
The cost will depend on exactly what kit is already fitted to the car.

There's a chap called Simon who did all the fitting and coding on mine, he has a great name in the retrofit world and I'd advise you to find him on Facebook
Simon Chodorowski
tell him exactly what you want to do, give him the VIN number of your car and he'll tell you everything you need to know!

Thanks for the replies.
Unfortunately it would seem that the car i was interested in has been sold. probably easier though if I find a car with the sat nav already fitted.

More of them will be coming off lease now so wait on the perfect car. I bet you in the end you end up with a much better example than this car.

I'm in no great rush so happy to wait for the right car. Also wondering about a Skoda Octavia Estate too as they look rather nice, especially the TSi vRS.
