Right, so the Mrs just sold her 987.2 Boxster S to free up some capital. Loved the car but it wasn't suited to a 30 mile commute up the M1 for her new job.

Car goes at the weekend so need something bought within the next week or so. Criteria is fast (she felt an Abarth and Cooper S underwhelming), sensible on fuel and road tax (say >30mpg and <£200/year), ideally an auto with Nav + Bluetooth.

Has to be something fairly recent as a mk2 TT felt too dated (she's bloody fussy!) and feel 'special'. Think its going to hard to match the Boxster given the budget of circa £18k but so far F56 Mini JCW and Audi S1 seem to be good options. I'm trying to push her towards a Golf R as well. Car can either be bought cash or lease/pcp if a good deal is available (Any good lease deals on a mk7 R?).

I'm sure I've overlooked some gems so any advice is greatly appreciated!

M140i with the Q4 support contribution would be my choice

If the cooper s and abarth are underwhelming then keep away from anything from the VAG group.

Is a Fiesta ST too harsh for everyday use ?

More than Happy with My Merc A250 and ticks all the boxes you specificed. Not as quick as the boxster obviously, but is lively enough.

What about a 987.1.
