Hey guys,

I find myself in this potential scenario.

I am applying for a new job in work which would mean driving to clients over the county, from talking to friends who work in that team it will average around 1200 - 1500 miles during the school term. I am also at the same time thinking of changing our car for something a lot more grown up and less basic, top of that list is a Lexus ISF. I can see it stinging the wallet somewhat running that for work as even with expenses it still will depreciate like a stone with big miles.

My second probably crazy idea is to get the ISF and then get a cheap diesel run around for work, leaving the ISF for the nice family runs out and the RX7 for my personal fun and track use.

Any one else do a similar thing?

My view is that if you buy the car that you really want, then you should use any excuse to drive it all the time, rather than driving a cheap diesel shed instead, because where's the enjoyment in that.

I got my Mustang in March as a second car, and currently use it as a daily driver for work and pleasure, and I've aleady racked up over 11,000 miles in the first six months.

The 1,200 - 1,500 miles per school term is not really a high mileage in the great scheme of things, and the car will depreciate at a similar rate, whether it is sitting on your drive or whether you are out it.

3 terms a year
Roughly 3mths per term

That’s only 100-125miles per week for business use - not worth any consideration about really considering you’ll should be paid at least the HMRC basic mileage rate (hopefully more) - as an example we get 45p/mile

So you'll be doing business mileage in the car for 38 weeks of the year, I'd say get the IS-F but a high mileage one & run it until it drops.

If you got something like this:

You could run it for a fair while, yes it will depreciate but not by as much as you might think, here's a high miler:

Will your mileage rate cover both "depreciation" and fuel?
