Hello hello.

Been on the look out for a daily driver. Seen a few cars around £2.5-5k. Lowish mileage - 40-50k miles. Two cars on my radar both have full main dealer service history, but both are missing their service books.

Whats the consensus on a missing service book? Both dealers say they can get a duplicate service book from the main dealer the car has been serviced at, but its not the same as an original book with stamps etc is it.... or is it?!?

FWIW - One car is a R53 Cooper S, the other an Audi A2.

Thoughts?

IME experience a duplicate book makes no difference

I would be more concerned in checking the FDSH the dealers claim the cars have is a reality by ringing the servicing dealers and asking for copy invoices of the work done.

Once you have checked it is legit you can get the dealer to order the duplicate book and have it stamped up prior to collection

Yep, would get confirmation from the dealers re service records and then get the duplicate book bought up to date. Is having service print outs and a duplicate book enough. At the end of the day we are talking about 15 year old cars here (2002-4 ish)
