Boxster replacement
Discussion
Loss of shift money means I'm selling the Boxster and not necessarily after a direct replacement. If it's going to be a similar car it's a Z4 or a manual SLK350 (rocking horse s
t) but I'd be looking at no more than about £6500.
Failing that I fancy a trip in the opposite direction to barge country- at a cheaper entry price, say no more than £5k, preferably less. The idea being there's a spare pot of cash should any surprise problems arise, with more of a fund for some typical barge bork, without getting carried away...
These have all grabbed my attention and some typical problems that were ridiculous to repair now have alternative solutions that are significantly cheaper, I'm thinking XJ compressor seals and 7 series coolant pipes (V8 models). But what ones are some real bork nightmares best avoided?
XJ
CLS
E-class
Lexus GS
5 series (back in an e39)
7 series
A8
Phaeton
Always liked the XJ and CLS in particular, but a GS seems to offer so much kit in what's meant to be a very dependable package. Or is there anything else I should be considering? I've had half an eye on the odd Volvo S60, renowned for extreme comfort but I just don't desire one of them like I do the likes of an XJ.
Already have a hot hatch so not interested in another just now.

That's a hell of a lot of car and well worth a closer look. The MOT history shows only wear & tear issues previously. I'd probably pay for a proper inspection on the car, chip the price as much as possible based on that and then maybe split the plate and sell it off to recoup some cash.
Unfortunately, a previous owner looks to have added some pish LED strips into the front bumper - I'd want them off and dread to think where the switch might be (if there is one)...

I never noticed them.
Did these not come with a lot of kit as standard? Or was there anything you'd expect these to have that it wouldn't?
For a car like that I'd always think xenons, heated seats, cruise and parking sensors. To be honest, anything else is usually just superficial guff for me.

I viewed a S class a month or so ago
Check the passenger footwell for damp
Make sure everything works and there are no lights on the dash
The one I viewed was a one owner car (Dr) who spent a fortune on it over the years but then its seemed had repairs carried out at a Indy

Actually quite reliable, easy to work on, parts aren't too bad, 30MPG equivalent on gas.
