Howdy all,

I’ve been browsing PH classifieds for a dolphin grey Kendo special edition NC MX5. There are currently two cars available.

Both cars are 2011. One is up for just under £8k on 76k miles and the other just under £11k at 17k miles.

Assuming I am buying the car with a personal loan and plan to keep it for 3-4 years (doing 10k miles a year) which do you think would have been the smarter choice when I come to sell it?

Which one would you go for? Thoughts welcomed!

I'd go for the 8k one.

I was leaning towards that one, but a bit worried about how easy it will be to sell on at 100k miles. I have no issues with owning a car on this mileage but I know that most will do!

I do think 100k Miles would put a lot of people off a car, I think my approach would be to have a polite conversation with the owner of the low mileage car and tell him honestly that I like his car but it's hard to ignore a car that is £3k less so would he be prepared to take an offer of £10k? Given the time of year I think you can afford to be a bit cheeky with an MX-5 (within reason).

To add to the above, had a quick scan through AutoTrader and whilst the mileage is lovely on the 17k car it does look quite robustly priced so I think circa £10k is probably about right anyway.

Negotiated on price and went for the lower mileage car. Can’t wait to pick it up!!

Thanks for the advice smile
