VW Diesel Scrappage - mega deals available
Discussion
After testing a BMW i3 (amazing) I've been keen to get an EV of some kind - been considering buying a 18m old BMW i3 or leasing a Golf GTE Advance.
On a whim I went on carwow to see how much a new GTE Advance would be. Got some quotes back, the cheapest of which was just under £27k, a good 5 grand off list, not bad. My wife has a 161k Citroen C8 that is on its last legs, we're hoping it'll make it to December when our cheap lease Pug Traveler turns up. Anyway, turns out VW are offering FIVE GRAND diesel scrappage on a Golf GTE. You need to have owned a Euro4 or earlier diesel for at least 6 months to qualify, runs out end December.
So I've gone for it, placed an order for a white one, £22,485 all in. Still not cheap for a Golf but it is a lot of car, ~25 mile EV range, radar cruise, full LED dash, LED lights etc. Given 18m old ones are on AutoTrader for 24k and are obviously in demand I'm pretty happy with this deal. Will report back when it arrives.

I had a good look at this - ultimately it was the small boot that put me off. We haven't ruled out a Passat GTE estate instead.
Unfortunately my mk5 Gti isn't a scrappage car, if it was a 1k diesel motor I would probably have jumped on the deal because you can get circa 10k off. At 22k like you say it's an awful lot of car.

Were you not tempted by a 1 year old i3 REX for similar money? A car I never thought I'd like but after driving one, I absolutely love the i3.
Yes, very. Was about to buy a this '16 plate 60Ah REx with loads of kit for £22.5k. The GTE deal just solves our problems with the C8 though, and I suspect I'll be able to run it for a year and chop it in for what I paid, maybe for a 94Ah i3. The range increase really makes a huge difference to the usability. I definitely see myself in one in the future.Gassing Station | Car Buying | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
