Shame these and the MI16's were butchered for 205 GTI's.

More is the shame the 405t16 was never actually sold in the uk.
In fact the market was limited, quite a few were French police cars.

This brings back memories for me.
In the early 90`s (when I was a boy racer) I had a 405 Mi16 X 4, had it chipped, modified induction, wide speedlines with Yoco`s. Was that a bat mobile. It was probably one of the most underrated cars of the time. LSD front and rear, active ride height rear suspension. (Citroen BX). 150 MPH and it would stick to the road like glue. That 16V XU was the best engine Peugeot ever made.
Apparently Peugeot could not make RHD T16`s because the turbo was in the way.

Very underrated car the 4x4 not that many survive although there’s one on eBay right now.
The mi16 engine is also very underrated.
I’ve got one in my 205 on throttle bodies.
It came from a cat b 405mi16x4 baCk in in 2003.

Did you add the lsd?

Yeah I've been eyeing up that MI16x4, if the 205 and 309 pricing is something to go by, it should be worth a good fortune one day soon. Could easily daily it too.

From what I remember they had LSD standard? they had a habit of stripping the gear in the transfer box,I broke two !!
The draw back with the Mi16x4 was it was very heavy and complicated. Just to replace the clutch was a 10 - 12 hour job.

Alot of people said to go for the MI16 FWD instead from what I heard.

I agree,compared with a 4X4 its a simple car.
The old XU9J4 1.9 pre cat was the best, and quickest. When Peugeot fitted a cat it killed that engine so they had to enlarge it to 2.0 and fit lots of crap electronics.
Nice 90/91 Mi16's are becoming very thin on the ground. If you do find one that's been restored or well looked after you will have a very enjoyable car.

One other thing,if you do find an early one make sure it DOES NOT have the early Bendix ABS system,it was a nightmare,a high pressure pump instead of a master cylinder together with lots of strange stuff.Peugeot had massive problems with it, complete brake failures !!
I used to rip the lot out,do away with ABS and fit the complete pedal box and master cylinder from a 405SRi .
Mind you if my memory is correct it was only fitted on the very first Mi16`s 87-88. From then on they all had conventional Bosch systems we all know and love?

The 2.0 mi16 is made of steel, the 1.9 Mi is alloy.
Just another thing to add!
More powerful and lighter too!
