Welcome to PH.A Clio 182 is a good place to start - relatively cheap to buy and run, and very good on track. It depends on what you're used to though. Are you a petrolhead (i.e. do you love cars)? Might be worth sharing what you have driven and is currently on your drive - and if you're handy on the spanners or not.
PH is a labour of love at times but there are a lot of good folks here that will offer suggestions that may require some research.
Can't go wrong with a 182 really but neither can you with a mk3 MR2 or almost any other car! You can have fun on a track in pretty much anything after all in one way or another, which is what it's all about.
In terms of the best place to start, going along to a few days without a car doesn't do any harm so you can get a feel for it and blag a couple of passenger rides if possible, then a novice/road car only day with your own car on an airfield type track (loads of run off) and grabbing some basic tuition within your first couple of days should put you in good stead.

I'd say the 182 is a good shout but if you can stretch to a 197 then that is a more robust car as well as still being a great steer & obviously you'll want one with a Cup Chassis.
