I think that I can justify just about any car as to why it should be my next car.

I'm sure to a certain extent if you are on this website then we all suffer the same problem, but mine may have gone too far. Last week I had to drive up to Birmingham, a nice 2ish hour drive up the M40, not really a struggle. Rather than take my own car I took one of the company left over lease cars, a BMW 530d GT.

If asked on Monday what I thought, I would have said: I don't like the look of those BMW GT cars. I always think it can't really make up it's mind what it's trying to be. By the end of my time with it though I was ambivalent about its looks. Driving the thing, well it wasn't special. I think this one was well spec'd, it certainly did everything and more than I expected. It had a lot of room inside and the seats felt spongy yet supportive. There was a lot of torque but it never really felt right using it or that when you did it really knew what to do with it.

I guess I still don't really like the car, but I reckon it wouldn't take that much to convince me to have one. Putting aside my problem of habitual vehicular justification, because if I did get a 530d GT I reckon I'd always be looking at it on the drive and be asking myself why? I have a horrible feeling that the car I just described above might be my near perfect daily.

I'll never sell my MK1 MX-5, that's my little slice of fun.

But I have an office job that I need to look smart for and sometimes take clients out, a wife, a kid, 2 cats and a house. I am erring on middle aged and have very little ambition other than to be generally happy.

Should I really just roll over and buy a nice sized petrol auto dull car that does the job in comfort with no fuss? have I just completely u-turned on why I got my last daily?

Now I'm just confused...

I'm in the process of selecting a new company car. I currently have a 5 series and find it very good but I just don't enjoy it and the build quality on mine was poor.

So vowed not to have another BMW. So Merc delivered an E Class for a long test....Great car the interior felt very special and the tech great. Then I got my hands on the XF for a long test... Wow just wow, ok the interior lacked and the tech is behind but the drive and handling had me laughing like child and from the outside it looks great, brilliant car if you love driving and the cherry is the lease for the 25t is the same as the 20d, so petrol all the way.

So mind made up I was going to place my order then BMW called. Would I like to try the new 5 series? Well no not really love the Jag and want the Jag. Well has sir driven the new 5? Nope no intention of I really like the Jag. What if we leant you a 5 series for 3 days? Ermmm ok different car for few days what harm can it do but I need to place my order for the Jag.

I have now got the 5 series on loan and.....it's very good in every way. Not brilliant, but very good at everything and the maths for both lease and BIK are cheaper and I can also get the petrol and......OH bks I can't find a sensible reason to not get one.

No matter how much I love that Jag the 5 series just keeps making more sense. Head v's Heart.

I get it. It doesn't matter what the cars are. The BMW makes sense in terms of everything that you need it to do, but you want the Jag. I reckon whichever you go for you will be looking back saying I should have chosen the other one.

I will say though, think yourself lucky, at least you have in mind cars of a similar type. I'm sure I will be kicking myself for not trying a mental estate version of something, although that's not what I need, is it?

I wanted a VW GTI, Forester, Outback, BRZ, Cayman, Honda FDR1200. Happily ended up with a 335d saloon.

Yep, that's messed up.

My current list although it's bound to change by this evening is: BMW I3, C43 soft top, E300 coupe, Ford Mondeo Estate, Tesla Model S, Landrover Discovery Sport and Maserati Ghibli.

If you're a petrol head one or two cars can never cut it. We need a fleet and be able to chop and change. Been deliberating for weeks on what to replace a Clio 182 - Megane R26 F1, Boxster S, Clio Williams, Z4 3.0, S2000, 350z, E36 Compact with 328 conversion, EK9 with B18c conversion, 205 with Mi 16, Evo VII / VIII. I cant even set a budget aarrgghh!
