I'll second the Touran.
With the caveat... if you need to get 7 adults in it, you wont get much more than an umbrella and a handbag for each passenger in the boot. If its for 5 day to day, with room for a couple of kids to an occasional away football match, you'll be fine.
Good size car, easy to drive, but not massive. (shorter than Golf estate) easier to park (for me) than a VW Up!, and can fit 3m lengths of wood, and 2ft x 8ft chipboard sheets inside.
2.0 TDI is good enginewise, especially if towing, not sure how well the 1.6tdi or 1.2 petrol would cope.

for not much over £10k you can get a good Citroen C4 Grand Picasso.
We had one on a lease for a year and was great. The 1.6 diesel was fine and pretty economical and there is plenty of space.
It really depends what you need it for, as a 5 seater with occasional 7 seat use you wont have any issues with any of the 7 seat vehicles on offer. frequently having 7 up and needing luggage space is a different matter, and the Galaxy or SEAT Alhambra are probably your best bets there.

I've had a Touran for 10 years. It's been good while the kids were little. Now the kids are getting taller than me, and the car is falling apart. Every panel is dinged, inside and out and webuyanycar offered me two bags of crisps and a mouldy Twix bar for it.
So it's getting junked for a T5/T6 van as soon as I can scrape together the not inconsiderable capital required.
I'd get an S-max, if I had to do it again.

Another alternative is the Mazda5 in Sport Venture trim ticks a lot of boxes either that or the bigger S Max.
