Afternoon all, would be intrigued to hear some different perspectives on this...

Car A is a 16 plate, has cruise control (which isn't an absolute necessity for my commute but is useful), mileage is 15,000.

Car B is a 66 plate, no cruise control, mileage is 4,000.

Other than the differences above, Car A and Car B are identical, even down to the colour.

However, Car B is advertised for £400 more than Car A.

Is this a fair reflection of how much younger it is? Is Car A possibly overpriced?

B could be between a day newer than A, or just shy of a year newer. The difference is as relevant to remaining warranty as to any value adjustment for age.

Is the spec difference really ONLY cruise?

And if I'm reading this correctly car B has 11k miles less...?

Perhaps that's another reason, along with the age difference, of the £400 uplift?

So car B is a bit newer (say six months), and has done 11k fewer miles. All else being equal then TBH I'd expect it to be more than £400 more. Put it this way, if the age difference between them was ten times as great, and the mileage difference was ten times as great (so car A was about six years old and around 100k miles), then I'd expect the price difference to be a lot more than £4k, even if it's a really cheap car to start with.

Having done some further digging, Car A is March 16 and Car B is Sept 16. Yes, the only spec difference is cruise!

Are these just advertised prices at different dealers perhaps in different locations? If so this isn't a question of value just a judgement call on how each business wants to price a car.

Exacting this.
Cars don't have a 'specific value' as such.
They're priced at whatever the seller chooses.
