I need to get a bigger car so that my parents, who are in their 80s, can get in easier. Ideally want something they can step into rather than down so looking at something X5 sized.
I've seen a lovely used X5 near me for £46,000 but wondered if their was a better, less expensive option to consider. I only do around 7500 miles pa with about half being motorway and the rest local small journeys. My 1 series diesel has managed this all with little effort over the last 3 and a half years but should I also look at petrol?
Thanks!

With that kind of mileage I'd say look for a petrol at which point a performance SUV would be right up there on the list especially with your annual mileage, it depends on your mix if you're doing 60% of your mileage on the motorway then a diesel will be fine, the other way round & you may have some issues.
The petrols will be just as complex as the diesels so the only real difference will be in your fuel useage.

When looking at diesel SUV's it's hard to ignore the full fat RR it'll be just as reliable as the others here, it would be the car I'd look at first.

Or you could go fully leftfield & get one of these which combines diesel torque & economy (when compared to a petrol equivalent) with true rapid performance

I have a Full Far Range Rover and even in access height mode my ageing parents find it difficult to get in. It's an 'up and in' movement! The Porsche Cayenne is much more car-like despite it's size and easier to get in/out. What I'm really saying is size isn't the only factor. I can only suggest you try the potentials.

Thanks for that. I actually went to Porsche Leicester on Monday to try the Macan and Cayenne and noted that the Cayenne was very car like and easy to get into, the rear especially. I love the Macan but feel it's probably a little too small in the rear as much as I'd like one.I'll be trying various options over the next week or so.
I've just gone from a 2014 Galaxy to a 2015 Touareg. Before that I had a 5 series (E61).
I regularly take mum (80) to visit my aunt in the care home, as she won't drive that far anymore. She found getting in and out of the Galaxy easier that the Touareg. The E61 was easy to get into, but hard to get out of.
She finds the Touareg much more comfortable than the Galaxy though. The seats in the Galaxy are not that supportive.

Careful with 4x4s it's not just height but how deep the seats are into the car.
People movers are surprisingly good at.
a) Moving people.
b) Getting them in and out.
