Do I buy a golf R with cloth seats ?

Looking into Golf R but 99% of them have cloth seats and ideally I'd like leather .

Would this be a deal breaker for you ?

I didn't know anyone actually bought a Golf R. I suppose with all the cheapy lease deals, that's why they'll all be bog standard.

My (bought) R had cloth seats and they were fine. I prefer cloth to leather...

Not really interested in lease as will buy used and likely to be a couple of years old

Risk of the cloth seats, couple of year old golfs is that they're lease cars people have gotten with zero options for the minimum cost and just abused until handover. Have a good look and get a warranty.

cloth would always be my preference over leather, and you would assume in a performance orientated car they are grippier, like for like.

Not sure how VW/Audi cloth holds up, but I have had cloth in other cars and I would not go back. Leather is easier to clean, but cloth is comfier, grippier, and less uncomfortable in hot/cold weather.

Mines a lease, but it's not abused in any way shape or form. Its not my car after all.

Why not go and sit in one; maybe even try and swing a test drive and see what you think? Respectfully, other people's opinions aren't ultimately going to help you much here.

Most will probably be ex-lease cars; meaning, base spec with no options. I can't see it being much of a deal breaker but it depends how compulsory leather is to you.

Try both, buy whichever you prefer.

Oh, and ignore the idea that how a car is financed affects how it is treated by the owner/keeper/whatever.

You'll not find many with the leather option ticked whatever the source because it's an insanely expensive option.

I drove one and loved it and the car had leather .
The leather I think lifeted the interior and I’m just concerned about the state the cloth may get in after a while .

Will go take another look

Are you looking at mk7 or mk6 golf R? Can find a few of each with leather seats.

Not sure on your budget and mileage limit?

I can't believe that leather wasn't standard in the Golf R, given that it's the flagship Golf!

The cloth is incredibly hard wearing, as is the rest of the cabin. I'm on my 3rd MK7 (including two Rs) and all have had cloth. To boot I also have two young children who abuse the hell out of it, and it always comes up looking new.

I’m after a mk7 with DSG looking at all cars on the search functions between 19-25k
Up to 15k miles ideally

Its a VW, seats and a steering wheel are standard, everything else is an option.

PS, cloth for me as the VW leather looks and feels cheap.
